Uno nuevo

Despues de casi completar un vestido, para luego cagar por completo los ojales, estuve un poco desanimada.  Pero, seguí adelante, compré una tela pana en color caramelo con un algodón estampada a juego y terminé un vestido peto con bolsillos y forrado.  ¡Uf!

After almost finishing a cute dress and then completely effing up the buttonholes, I was a little discouraged.  But I perservered, bought some lovely caramel colored velveteen and a coordinating cotton print and managed a retro jumper with patch pockets and fully lined.  Whew!

Misión cumplida/Mission accomplished

Tiene un añito recién cumplido y dos conjuntos nuevos también.

Cosas que aprendí con este proyecto.  Tallas hasta 2 años son bebe.  Cuando tiene mas que 24 meses son de niños.

Empecé con Burda 9802, pero eliminé el encaje, añadí manguitas cortas y un cuello, y forré el corpiño y los pololos, ya que me parecían un poco flojos.  Empecé con mangas frunjidas a una banda, pero en cuando terminé, apenas sirvieron para un bebe de 12 meses.  No hubo ningún sentido en hacer un conjunto de bebe ya pequeño, así que cambié para otras mangas con elástico que la servirán hasta 18 meses por lo menos.  Utilizé cinta de satén donde está en contacto con la piel.  Luego hice otro vestido coordinado para llevar encima sin manga y con cierre en frente para facilitar el acceso.

Happy Birthday Adriana!

She´s just turned one and has 2 new outfits.

Some things I learned on this project.  Sizes up to 2 years old are ¨infants¨.  Older than 2 they are toddlers.

 Too small

I started with Burda 9802, but eliminated the lace, added puffed sleeves and a ruffled collar and lined the bodice and the diaper cover, since it seemed a little flimsy. I started with piped sleeves gathered onto a band, but by the time I was done, it was barely big enough for 12 month size.  No point in making a baby outfit too small, so I made another set with elastic that should get her well past 18 months. I used satin bias tape where casings touch skin. Then I made the coordinating jumper sleeveless and button in the front for easier access.

Ahí está - un vestido de fiesta.

Voilà a party dress.

Prefiero pensar que mi estilo es mas como simple y campestre, pero cuando hay lentejuelas, ya necesita una ocasión para ponerlo.

I like to think of my style as more rustic simplicity, but when you´re talking about sequins - pretty much it calls for an occasion.

Las mangas han salido bonitas.

De vuelta/We´re back

Se acabó las vacas.  Y menos mal, porque estamos valdaos de trabajar en la casiña.

Vacation´s over.  And not a moment too soon, we´re knackered from working on the cottage.

Próximo/Next up

Tengo esto, 100% lino bordado con lentejuelas (¡brillo!), que me encanta.  Pero se acaba el verano para hacer vestidos de lino, asi que debo ponerme las pilas.

Me intrigan las mangas ¨petalos¨.  Me preocupa un poco coser dos capas de tela frunjidas, pero ya veremos.

I have this, embroidered 100% linen with sequins (shiney!), which delights me.  I am running out of summer to make linen dresses, so I´d better get a move on.

I´m also intrigued by petal sleeves, though a little concerned about 2 layers of fabric gathered or pleated into an armscye, but we´ll see what happens.

Lazos/Chain loops

He puesto lazos para el sujetador en el vestido.  Son fáciles y sirven tambén para cinturones etc.
I´ve put chain loops for bra straps in the dress.  They´re quite easy to do, and also work for belt loops, etc.

Usé un doble hilo.  Cose unas puntadas para asegurarlo y hace un lazo.
I used a double thread.  Take a few stitches for security and then make a loop.

Coge el hilo y lo pasa por el laso, creando otro segundo lazo.
Pass the thread through the first loop, creating another.

Apreta el nudo hasta quedar firme.  Repite hasta que está suficientemente largo.
Tighten the knot until just firm.  Repeat until the chain is long enough for your purpose.

Houston, tenemos un problema

Nunca falla.  Justo cuando la cosa va bien, de repente todo tuerce y tienes un disastre para salvar.  En este caso, no fui suficientemente cuidadosa en apartar una parte del vestido de la máquina. 


It never fails.  Just when all appears to be going well, suddenly it turns on you and there´s a disaster to try to save.  In this case, I wasn´t sufficiently vigilent in separating part of the dress from the jaws of the overlock machine.

Y con un corpiño nuevo.  Me encanta este retal de lino.
And with a new bodice.  I love this embroidered linen remnant.
